Job Description: Role purpose
• Manage projects to provide business solutions. Give the project team directions and maintain control of
progress, quality and budget.
Major accountabilities
• Manage and represent the project from start-up to completion.
• Plan and organize the project, allocate internal and/or external resources to accomplish project tasks.
• Lead the project staff.
• Be responsible for achieving the project objectives.
• Manage quality, timeliness and cost of the deliverables.
• Maintain control over the project's status and budget.
• Report project status and issues where help is needed to the Steering Committee.
• Compliance to the Crystal methodology and GxP where applicable.
Key performance indicators
• Achieve agreed targets in terms of quality, time and cost.
• Adhere to defined management and delivery processes for IT projects and other policies relevant to the
project scope (e.g. HW/SW standards, CSV, Information Protection).
• Ensure delivery of project results according to agreed quality, schedules and cost while maintaining
customer satisfaction.
• Lead the assigned project personnel to jointly achieve a high customer satisfaction.
Specific Requirements
Project Manager is responsible for:
• Supporting Functional IT Heads by developing Business Case for projects and Prepare project CARs.
• Planning, Organizing and Managing and Delivering Large-Scale and mid-sized systems implementations
• Identifying, Planning, Organizing and Delivering Business Process Re-Engineering initiatives across all
aspects of the business
• Responsible for overall financials (planning, tracking, managing, reporting) for project and delivering
projects on-time, to specification and on-budget
• Ensure the project remains on track in terms of meeting project objectives and vision.
• Ensure user/business expectations are met throughout the project.
• Implementing proper project management practices and adherence to Novartis standards (Crystal)
• Develop strategies/approaches for various phases of the project (ie, Lab approach, Scope documents,
etc.)
• Develop the technical standards for the project, which are in line with Novartis technical standards.
• Overall coordination of IT and business resources assigned to project; Ensure proper resources are
available to the project as outlined in the project plan. Manage resource issues--both IT and business
(strong influencing and matrix management experience required)
• Involve appropriate groups across Novartis when required throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage Quality and Risk aspects of the project
• Develop the quality plan and signoff matrix
• Develop Risk management plan; Regularly review project to identify new risks; Develop and execute
action plans to mitigate risk and issues as they arise. Escalate risk areas as appropriate.
• Track project status, develop project status reports and other project communications; Present status to
steering committee and management.
• Manage and resolve significant project issues. Ensure all obstacles are cleared in a timely manner.
• Ensure proper project communication plan exists and is executed. Ensure all stakeholders remain
informed of project status. Work with user manager to develop communication plan.
• Work with Legal and Procurement on contractual aspects of the project (ie, establishing communication
links between Novartis and vendor).
• Develop Rollout/Deployment Strategy and plans.
• Develop Contingency plans. Obtain buy-in from BU management on contingency plans.
• Understand the strategic direction of the business and marketplace and ensure the solutions developed
by the project match the business environment in the future as well as today.
• Ensure proper system transition to Support Team is executed and the respective support groups are
satisfied with the transition process.
Position Requirements & Education
SAP ERP Knowledge a plus
Sales, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain Knowledge
Exceptionally strong Project Management Skills
Large-scale ERP Systems Implementation Skills and Experience
Resource Management and Matrix Management Experience
Excellent Planning, Organizational, Influencing, Communication and Presentation Skills
MS/MBA Preferred
PMP Certification Preferred
