UNIX and Storage Admin
Location: SCHENECTADY, New York

With work continuing in upgrading legacy systems to Oracle 11g database environment, OPWDD is undertaking a mission to consolidate and virtualizes IBM Power hardware platforms. Mission critical internet and intranet applications will be affected by this upgrade. This plan calls for the deployment of new Oracle 11g application servers and databases on the IBM /AIX Power 6 and Power 7 hardware. Also, Contractor would be heavily involved in the new Secure File Transport project, to securely transmit files between OPWDD and other State Agencies, such as SFS (Statewide Financial System), DCS, DOH, OSC, OTDA and OMH. Contractors must have strong background installing, implement, and support IBM Power 6 systems Virtual Input/Output (VIO) Servers using the Advanced Power Virtualization (APV) features, administering and configuring fiber SAN infrastructure, installing, configuring, administering and upgrading UNIX systems.
Contract staff will provide expertise and knowledge transfer involved with these upgrade projects. Contract staff will also assist with deployment, upgrades and administration of data backup solutions such as Sysback, Kick Start, Ignite and Veritas NetBackup. Administration of enterprise Data Storage systems and SAN Fiber infrastructures will be included. Contract staff will also assist State staff in the maintenance of existing UNIX environments as well as providing much needed assistance with the creation of new platforms. At present, the existing staff has insufficient resources to accommodate the additional workload.
MANDATORY Requirements:
--Minimum of four (4) years experience installing, configuring, and administrating IBM/AIX, HP/UX, or Red Hat Linux systems. At least two (2) years of that experience must be within the last 36 months.
--Minimum of four (4) years experience with Korn shell and scripted systems utilities. At least two (2) years of that experience must be within the last 36 months.
--Minimum of three (3) years experience administering and configuring Enterprise Secure File Transfer solutions such as Axway (Tumbleweed) Secure Transport Server or File Transfer Direct.
--Minimum of three (3) years experience administrating and configuring Enterprise Storage Systems and Fiber SAN Infrastructures. At least two (2) years of that experience must be within the last 36 months.
--Minimum of three (3) years experience with Server Virtualization Technologies, such as IBM Virtual Input/Output (VIO) Servers using Advanced Power Virtualization (APV). At least one (1) year of that experience must be in the last 24 months.
--Minimum of two (2) years experience with enterprise backup solutions such as Tivoli Storage Manager or VERITAS NetBackup.
DESIRABLE Experience Listed in order of importance:
1. Experience installing, configuring, administering and upgrading IBM/AIX systems.
2. Experience installing, implement, manage and support a secure file transfer solution across multiple file transfer sites or applications which meet the government regulatory compliances.
3. Experience installing, implement, and support the IBM Power systems Virtual Input/Output (VIO) Servers using the Advanced Power Virtualization (APV) features.
4. Experience installing, configuring, and administrating HP/Tru64/HPUX systems.
5. Experience administering and configuring fiber SAN infrastructure.
6. Experience installing, configuring, and upgrading Red Hat/Linux systems.
7. Experience with system performance monitoring and analysis tools, such as Ganglia, IBM Director and BigBrother.
8. Experience installing, configuring, and administering Apache or Tomcat, JBoss, Web Logic, or WebSphere application servers
9. Experience installing, configuring, and administering UNIX utilities such as Samba, SSH, SUDO.
10. Experience administering with enterprise backup solutions, such as Tivoli Storage Manager or Veritas NetBackup.
11. Experience with other backup software such as Acronis True Image, and Unix backup applications, such as, Ignite, VDump, Tar.
12. Experience with VMware, VirtualCenter, P2V Converter.
13. Experience installing, configuring, and administering Sun Java System web server.
14. Experience working on a project team in a large, complex, data processing environment
