Position: Sr. Network Engineer

Location: Buffalo, NY

Duration : Full time

Strategic

• Establish and document key operational metrics and performance
• Maintain personal technical currency in industry trends, best practices, and tools
• Provide architecture and engineering services in support of the Network

Operational

• Design network solutions based on business requirements
• Ability to take a lead role in network design discussions
• Ability to support e-business infrastructure technologies
• Ability to implement IP Telephony and video solutions and support these in the enterprise
• Provide network support and maintenance for the enterprise and travel as required to fulfill these needs at remote sites
• Assist in day to day support of LAN, WAN, and e-business network components
• Serve as a point of escalation for Network Engineers and other IS&T staff
• Properly document various aspects of the network
• Participate in the on-call rotation for the Network Services team
• Participate in the planning and implementation of new policies and procedures
• Ability to identify and implement cost-savings opportunities and process improvements
• Participate in and support or Disaster Recovery activities
• Follow the O&I Quality System processes, including Daily Operations and Change Control

Background

• BS in Computer Science or MIS, or equivalent experience
• 3-5 years of Information Technology experience in Network design and support with Cisco routing and switching platforms
• 1-3 years experience supporting e-business network components
• 5-7 years related infrastructure experience
• Cisco certification preferred
• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience configuring current Cisco switches, routers, load balancers, and SSL accelerators
• Thorough understanding of the OSI model, TCP/IP protocol, QOS, VoIP, routing, switching, MPLS, Frame Relay, VPN technologies, firewalls, and wireless networking
• Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Team player
• Detail oriented

Position Summary:

Monitors LAN, WAN and servers. Provides batch monitoring, tap back-up, and restoration. Responsibilities include performing data configuration and installation of routers and firewalls. Administers mail system and implements new database architecture. Monitors and conducts performance evaluation of networks. Supports, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots all local area and wide area networking devices and related software for branch offices and internal and external networks.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree in computer science or related field Basic Functional Experience - 2 years of experience in supporting networks
