Location: Losangeles.CA
Duration: 1 year
Rate: DOE/hr

GC /citizens EAD or H1 transfer .

This Specialist Systems Administrator position is part of the Storage & Backup team in Application Hosting Services within the Enterprise Services organization, and is responsible for supporting the enterprise backup environment and NAS/SAN storage in a global environment. The primary responsibility of this position will be overseeing critical backup operations involving thousands of servers in multiple locations.

Functions (duties/accountabilities) include the following:

Serves as a technical consultant in the area of IT Backup.

Review and ensure Backup policies support the company Records and Retention policies.

Manage relationship with off-site data media storage provider.

Provide direction for installation, configuration and support of storage, backup and Disaster Recovery environments.

Lead data migration projects.

Generate Operations Reports related to system capacity and utilization. Provide trending information and root cause analysis.

Conduct Performance tuning and capacity planning related to the storage and backup environments.

Troubleshoot problems and provides 24x7 on-call escalation for support of production storage and backup systems.

Ensure proper alerting for the backup environment, backup jobs, and data replication are in place.

Update documentation of Storage, Backup and Disaster Recovery environments.
Interact closely with management, engineers, application resources, Database Administrators, Windows and UNIX Administrators, and Architects to plan and support the environments and underlying strategy.

Plan, recommend and implement strategies around upgrades for Storage and backup environments.

Participate in project meetings; develop specifications based on project requirements.

Govern storage and backup request process and ensure appropriate use of computing resources.

Schedule and oversee regular systems maintenance.

Serve as interface for vendor relationship management with respect to equipment and contracts.

Oversee storage provisioning, monitor system, forecast future storage demands, conduct performance tuning, system controls, and documentation; install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot issues.

Improve Disaster Recovery methods and procedures.

Manage and keep Disaster Recovery environment in sync with primary on a specified periodic basis so in the event of disaster, operations can be restored in approved timeframes.

Automate backup processes with custom scripts, consolidate and upgrade systems.

Monitor and review the execution of the processes, ensuring they remain effective.

Review and audit the Incident processes and ensure they are continuously improved.

Develop and document processes, practices, and policies.
Help develop training for IS staff in the uses of the processes and system tools used in support of the processes and deliver training as needed.

Define and report metrics, Critical Success Factors (CSFs), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the processes.

Define improvement goals, methods to achieve those goals, and ways to measure goal attainment.

Work with IS staff across the functional areas to facilitate process and tool changes, align execution standards, and communicate changes.

Analyze and report on incident trends, process adherence, service contractual and metrics.

Communicate and manage expectations of the users during the planning and rollout of changes to the Incident management tools and/ or process.

Participate in regular incident review meetings to ensure incidents are being resolved promptly in order to minimize service outages.

Interact and collaborate with site leads across the globe to develop / implement best practices for the backup and storage areas.


Masters degree & 3 years of information systems experience
OR
Bachelors degree & 5 years of information systems experience
OR
Associates degree & 10 years of information systems experience
OR
High school diploma / GED & 12 years of information systems experience


Bachelors degree or advanced degree plus 5 years or more of directly related experience.

One or more storage, backup and/or DR vendor certifications (EMC, NetApp, HP, NetBackup).

One or more platform certifications (Microsoft, UNIX, Linux).

Five (5) years or more as a backup and storage engineer (planning, designing, configuring and supporting large enterprise storage/backup environments).

Extensive domain knowledge and/or experience with Veritas NetBackup Administration, NetBackup Command Line, Bocada Configuration and Reporting, ADIC Tape Libraries, NetApp VTL devices, Data Domain De-Duplication Appliances, Iron Mountain Connected Backup (CDP), UNIX System Administration, Bare Metal Restores, BladeLogic and/or System Analysis/Design.

Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact well with multiple levels of management.

Strong technical and analytical skills.

Able to organize and schedule tasks, develop realistic action plans, and incorporate time constraints and task priorities.

Ability to take initiative and work with minimum direction in a high demand environment.

Works effectively as a team member and leads cross-functional teams.

Possesses the ability to present results to senior management in a professional manner.

Has excellent Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
